Mandate

1- To promote, coordinate and aid forestry education in the country for high academic standards in the universities imparting forestry education.

2- Capacity building programme for the scientists, technical, executive and ministerial staff working in the council by conducting and coordinating various domestic and foreign trainings.

3- To undertake Policy Research in arena of Forests, Wildlife and Environment and to provide inputs for policy makers.

4- Recruitment and promotion of Scientists and Senior Technical Officers (Category-III) of technical cadre of the council.

 

Activities / Programmes

A. Capacity Building:

The ICFRE has adopted a five-year HRD programme for capacity building of the managerial, scientific, executive and the technical cadre. The main objectives of HRD programme of ICFRE are

1-Improving the management skills of the managers and senior researchers and to keep them abreast with current thinking and trends in forestry research.

2-Enhancing the core competence of the researchers in their area of specialization through trainings, research workshops, seminars etc.

3-Providing in-service training in Professional Skills, Lab Management, Experimentation, Field Investigation, Administration etc., to all levels of supporting staff.

The total number of trainings conducted and number of participants undergone training for last five financial years is given in Annexure I.

B. Centre for Forest Policy Research(CFPR):

The Directorate of Education has been mandated to look into the policy issues for the better governance of forests, wildlife and other natural resources. In this endeavor, Centre for Forest Policy Research (CFPR) was established at ICFRE (HQ.) in the year 2018 to take up policy research studies exclusively focused on forest and environment sector. The prime aim of the CFPR is to act as “Policy Think Tank" dedicated to undertake extensive and in-depth research on policy perspectives in the forestry and environment sector. The prime focus of CFPR is on research in contemporary policy issues for the better governance of natural resources in India and providing inputs to Government of India for policy decisions and appropriate interventions. The related details are given in Annexure III

C. Promoting Forestry Education:

1- Accreditation of the Universities/Colleges: The Directorate also undertakes accreditation of universities with an objective of establishing a mechanism for maintenance of appropriate standards of teaching, research, examination and other academic activities in these institutions and in forestry that would help prepare the students to serve in the forestry sector and to seek employment opportunities both in Government as well as in private enterprises. 

2- Grant-in-Aid to the Universities : Directorate of Education provides Grant-in-Aid to State Agricultural Universities/forestry colleges under other universities which are accredited with the ICFRE for promoting forestry education at under-graduation and post-graduation levels.

D. Chair of Excellence:

To attract eminent personalities and researchers to facilitate qualitative enhancement in research and education in the country in the field of Forestry, it has been decided to establish Chair of Excellence (CoE) in ICFRE. The Board of Governors in its 57th meeting held on 16th December, 2019 has approved the establishment of the following Chair of Excellence in ICFRE (HQ) and its institutes.

E.  Recruitment and promotion of Scientists and Senior Technical Officers (Category-III) of Technical Cadre

All the Issues related to recruitment and promotion of Scientists and Senior Technical Officers(Category- III) working in the Council is looked after by the Directorate of Education.

F.  E-learning forestry modules under Mission Karmayogi

Total 10 forestry e-learning modules have been published on iGOT portal under Mission Karmayogi. The details of forestry modules are given in Annexure V
