Seminar/Workshop/Symposia organised/Hosted by RFRI, Jorhat during the calender year 2003-2004.

	A Joint Forest Management Meet at Majuli was organised in January 2003.
	A training on Vegetative Propagation and Multiplication of bamboo and nursery and plantation management techniques of bamboo and cane was conducted on 21st January 2003 (for farmers / artisans).
	On site training was organised on Macro-proliferation and preservation of bamboo for rural development under the capacity building project from 30th to 31st Jan 2003 at Sumaibari and Kamalabari of Majuli.
	RFRI put a stall at Prince of Wales College, Jorhat on Platinum Jubilee of the college on 16th, 17th & 18th Jan., 2003.
	An exhibition was participated in Jyoti Bidhyapit, Teok in the all Assam Science Golden Jubilee Organised by Govt. of Assam from 1st to 3rd of Feb., 2003.
	Prof. K.H. Hoffmann, Head of the department animal Ecology-1 and Dean, university of Bayreuth, Germany visited the Institute on 27th Feb., 2003.
	Two days workshop on Round Table Consultations on Gmelina arborea Improvement Programme was held from 4th to 5th March 2003.
	Exhibited divisional activities in the state level khadi and village Institutes exhibition at court field, Jorhat from 6th to 16th March 2003.
	Participated in the Exhibition organised by CBTC, Guwahati during the Bamtech-2003 workshop from 11th to 13th March 2003.
	SPSS training was conducted by IT Cell Section from 26th to 30th May 2003 on “Factor Analysis of Statistical Data” by Dr. Kishore Kumar Das.
	A team from TIFAC, Govt of India, visited RFRI on 17th May for a preliminary identification of potentials for entrepreneurial activity related to processed bamboo shoots for marketing.
	Short-term practical training was imparted to NERIST student, Arunachal Pradesh from 2nd to 20th July (for 50 days).
	A TIFAC team consisting of three members namely Shri Sudhir K. Pande, D.G. Forest, Govt of India (retired), Ms. Deepti Dabas, Scientist ‘C’ and Mr. V.S. Oberoi, Adviser, TIFAC visited RFRI to discuss current and proposed activities of national Mission on Bamboo Application, as well as to acquire first hand knowledge of RFRI activities in the bamboo sector during July 2003.
	Shri S. K. Pandey, Senior Forestry specialist National Mission on Bamboo Application, Technology Information, Govt of India, Visited RFRI, Jorhat from. 22nd to 23rd August 2003.
	Training - Cum - Workshop on “Identification Of Bamboo Species for Survey parties for ground truthing at R.F.R.I”, Jorhat on 20 –01-2004.
	Participated in the Krishak Samoroh held from 21st to 24th February 2004 at Alengmara, Jorhat.
	Three scientists of RFRI, Jorhat, Dr. Y. C. Tripathi, Shri B. K. Pandey and Shri S. Pattanaik had attended ‘World Bamboo Congress’ which was held from 25th February – 5th march 2004 at New Delhi. The paper titled “Scientific Clump Management for Sustainable Shoot Production in Dendrocalamus hamiltonii Nees. & Arn.” presented by Shri S. Pattanaik in the 3rd Technical Session of the workshop has been adjudged as the best paper of the session.
	Training - cum - demonstrations for Setting up of Bamboo nursery was imparted to 9 official including Silviculturist, Range officer, Forest guard and Mali on 31st March 2004.
	Dr. Jasbir Singh, Head, Shifting Cultivation Division participated in round table conference on ECOLOGY AND BIODIVERSITY IN NORTH EAST INDIA held from 22nd to 23rd March/2004 at Assam University, Silchar.
	Short-term Practical Training was imparted to four forestry students from NERIST, Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh from 01/06/04 to 30/06/04. They were exposed with relevant Research informations, regarding the short duration and cost effective Nursery and field trial going at Naharoni Experimental Farm also macro propagation of bamboo and other research activities taken up by the Institute.
	A demonstration programme was organized on different Aspects of Bamboos to the Forester Trainees of Assam Forest School, Jalukbari, Assam on 30.09.2004.Some of the Scientists and Officers of this Institute attended the National workshop on “Use of Linux In Bioinformatics” held on 28th and 29th of September 2004 at Bioinformatics Sub-centre Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat.
	Shri B. Goal, D.C.F. & Dr. P. Selvam, scientist attended two days training on “USE OF LINUX IN BIOINFORMATICS” at Assam Agriculture University during 30.09.04 to 01.10.04.

In addition to these, RFRI Jorhat is regularly organizing training programmes on different topics on forestry to the students of different institutes and staff of different State Forest Departments from time to time. RFRI organizes seminars and workshops on purely internal basis under the ongoing research projects of different Divisions in the institute.
